Maritime and Aviation Internship Scheme (Maritime)

Introduction

To offer young generation an opportunity to have an early exposure to the wide spectrum of career opportunities in the aviation and maritime sectors so as to encourage them to join the two sectors after graduation, the Government established the “Maritime and Aviation Internship Scheme” (the Scheme) in 2014 to invite companies in the aviation and maritime sectors to offer internship places.

Eligibility

This initiative is open to the Hong Kong residents who are lawfully employable in Hong Kong, and currently* –

1. full-time local students (including students who are in the final year of their study) undertaking undergraduate or sub-degree programmes in any local institutions; or
2. full-time students (including students who are in the final year of their study) undertaking undergraduate or sub-degree programmes in any institutions outside Hong Kong; or
3. secondary six school leavers
   
*Excluding the students currently undertaking postgraduate programmes.

Partnership arrangement

Government’s support

• To reimburse the participating companies of the monthly honorarium paid to interns up to 75% or HK$7,000 (whichever is lower) for an internship period up to three months and applications are accepted throughout the year.

Company’s role

• To register and offer internship places under the MATF throughout the year for a minimum of 4 weeks (i.e. 28 days);
• To pay the monthly honorarium to student interns during the internship period, and then claim reimbursement from the MATF regarding the sum sponsored by the Government, together with an evaluation of the Scheme, after completion of internship;
• To give a fruitful and rewarding experience to the interns; and
• To encourage and release the interns to join the activities organised by the MATF.

For companies

Transport and Logistics Bureau will confirm with the companies the respective number of intern positions registered under the Scheme upon receipt of the registration forms. Please note that companies are free to select suitable interns and are encouraged to fill all the registered places as far as possible.

For students

Please refer to the information on internship places provided under the Internship Scheme (Maritime) as posted on the websites of the MATF and the above-mentioned post-secondary education institutions. Participating students are required to submit the applications direct to the recruiting companies.
Students will have opportunities to participate in visits / exchanges to be organised by the MATF. Upon completion of the internship, each student has to submit an evaluation form to the MATF via the recruiting companies.
