Maritime and Aviation Internship Scheme (Aviation)
Introduction
To offer young generation an opportunity to have an early exposure to the wide spectrum of career
opportunities in the aviation sectors so as to encourage them to join the sector after graduation, the
Government established the Maritime and Aviation Internship Scheme (Aviation) (the “Scheme”) under the
Maritime and Aviation Training Fund (the “MATF”) in 2014 to invite aviation-related companies to
participate in the Scheme and offer internship positions.
Eligibility
This initiative is only open to Hong Kong residents who are lawfully employable in Hong Kong, and
currently* –
- full-time local students (including students who are in the final year of their study) undertaking
undergraduate or sub-degree programmes in any local institutions; or
- full-time students (including students who are in the final year of their study) undertaking
undergraduate or sub-degree programmes in any institutions outside Hong Kong; or
- secondary six school leavers
*Excluding students currently undertaking postgraduate programmes.
Partnership arrangement
Government’s support
- To reimburse the participating companies of honorarium paid to each intern up to 75% or HK$7,500 per
month (whichever is lower) for an internship period up to three months.
Company’s role
- To offer internship positions within the financial year (i.e. from April this year to March next
year) for a minimum of four weeks (i.e. 28 days);
- To pay the monthly honorarium to interns during the internship period, and then claim reimbursement
from the MATF Secretariat for the Government-sponsored honorarium, within 60 calendar days after
completion of internship or the expiry of the first three-month sponsored internship period
(whichever is earlier);
- To provide interns with fruitful and rewarding internship experience; and
- To support and facilitate interns to participate in an enrichment programme organised by the MATF.
Enrichment programme (NEW)
- To enrich interns’ experience and augment their perception of the diversified career opportunities
in the aviation industry, an enrichment programme comprises a two-day industry orientation in early
July 2026 and a concluding session in late August 2026 will be launched for interns participated in
the Scheme starting from 2026.
- Interns commencing their internship between 1 April and 30 September 2026 are required to maintain a
100% attendance record for both sessions. For internships scheduled from 1 October 2026 to 31 March
2027, the timetable for enrichment programme will be released in due course.
- Interns attending the enrichment programme is part of the Scheme and participating companies will be
ineligible for honorarium reimbursement if interns fail to complete the entire enrichment programme.
For companies
Information on internship positions under the Scheme will be uploaded onto the website of the MATF
regularly and distributed to post-secondary academic institutions. Each intern will only be sponsored
once for working in the same participating company for all internship schemes under the MATF.

Students are required to submit their applications direct to the participating companies and attend the
enrichment programme organised by the MATF after they are being employed by the companies under the
Scheme.
