The following is issued on behalf of the Transport Advisory Committee:

The Transport Advisory Committee (TAC) was briefed today (July 29) by the Government on the latest developments in smart mobility initiatives.

The Government has been advancing various smart mobility initiatives, making full use of technologies such as innovative sensing and detection, artificial intelligence and big data analytics to enhance the efficiency of road usage and traffic management, properly addressing the growing transportation demands and providing citizens with a more convenient travel experience. Following the key strategies of smart mobility, namely Smart Transport Infrastructure, Data Sharing and Analytics, and Technology Application and Services, the Government has successfully advanced multiple projects in recent years. Meanwhile, the Smart Traffic Fund actively promotes innovation and technology research and applications related to vehicles, fostering the long-term technological development of smart mobility in Hong Kong.

The TAC Chairman, Professor Stephen Cheung, said, "Members note that the Government has made significant progress in recent years in autonomous vehicles, advanced vehicle technologies, a real-time adaptive traffic signal system, automated parking systems and various electronic licensing initiatives. Members welcome the Government's promotion of smart mobility and put forward views supporting the Government's integration of technology into traffic management to enhance overall transport efficiency, promote road safety and achieve the digitalisation of transport services."

Members anticipate that under the Transport Strategy Blueprint, which the Government aims to finalise within this year, Hong Kong's overall transport system will continue to be reliable, safe, smart, environmentally friendly and highly efficient.
